Desktop CNC router

My not-so-trusted chinese 3018 cnc is too weak and unstable even for me, so I’m making something a bit more sturdy. Based losely on the Root cnc 3 lite, but adjusted for what I had lying around.

This crappy little thing…
  • Workspace ~25x40cm
  • 24v, Ramps 1.4
  • 500w spindle
Replaced by this – slightly less crappy little thing

Left to do:

Figure out the y axis. Right now it’s mostly based on two 3d printed sliders, but it’s too wiggly and bound to break from vibrations. The idea right now is to make a slider from aluminium, with adjustment screws to make it sit snug on the rail. Have a feeling that 20×20 extruded alu is not gonna cut it in the long run, but that’s a worry for another time.

Janky y axis

Another things is walls for the enclosure. Too prevent this thing from dusting down my entire workspace, I’m building it into a shelf using plastic roofing.

Home for my new cnc

Missing parts

Waiting for some lead screws for the y axis. Once those arrive I should be able to start testing this thing.
