Betzy

Betzy is an almost 50 yrs old Knarr Variant that I’ve spent the last year or so refurbishing. Everything’s been stripped down, I’ve probably used 10 kgs of epoxy and several square meters of glass fiber to make her shine (somewhat) again.

They say you should never give a boat a new name, but in this case I have no way of knowing the history of this particular boat, or at least it would take me months of research to figure out what the original name was, so I figure I’ll take my chances. Seven yrs of bad luck? Yeah whatever.

Summer of 2022, Betzy is afloat. Still lacking some teak work, but ready for shorter trips.

It floats

Some pictures of the refurb and lifting the boat. It really is a beautiful design, and I can’t wait to get it on the water.

On the crane, the hull has received six plys of epoxy primer, looks brand new from where I’m sitting…

So much old paint and antifouling to remove… But eventually it must come of.
First stroke. Epoxy primer ftw.
